Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is one of the fastest growing sports in the UK and is the most effective martial art in the world.

Unlike any other martial art, in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu it can take up to ten years to earn a black belt and so this is considered to be an incredible achievement. Gracie Barra Preston was founded by Black Belt and Head Instructor Paul ‘Leão Marinho’ Hartley and boasts 5 further black belt assistant instructors and professors; Matt ‘Stallone’ Callaghan, Ian ‘Peter Pan’ Fell, Andy ‘Zidane’ Clark, Wayne ‘Gato’ Blezard and Michael ‘Fletch’ Fletcher.

There are very few Black Belts teaching in the UK at present but Preston has 6, making it the premier Brazilian Jiu Jitsu school in the North West and one of the top places to train in the whole of the UK.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is not only about training and keeping fit, but is a great sport to socialise and make friends, become disciplined and set goals for yourself if you wish to compete. The club is totally aligned with the Gracie Barra curriculum and has Gracie ICP trained instructors and coaches to help you achieve all grades and goals. The club also has a Future Champions class for children and also Anti Bullying classes and also a wide variety of early morning, day time and evening classes to suit everyone.

JIU JITSU IS PART OF MY LIFE

I started training Jiu Jitsu with Paul just over a year ago. Previously I'd had two goes at getting into Jiu Jitsu and I can honestly say Paul is the main reason it now sticks and has become part of my life. He helped me get my blue belt and i am training harder in Jiu Jitsu than I have ever trained before. I should probably also add I am nearly 40 and Paul teaches me practical techniques that allow me to develop quicker than if I were 21. If you are interested in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, martial arts or just getting seriously fit. I would train with Paul every day of the week.

    GIVE IT A GO!

Not only my first go at BJJ, but my first go at a Martial Art. Like many I gave it a go after getting into UFC etc and now I am hooked. No meat-head bully types, just respectful men and women learning the moves with plenty of Open Mat time for those that what to test themselves some. Give it a go!

    INVALUABLE

Training one to one with Prof Paul Hartley has been invaluable in every way. I now have an ever growing understanding as to the mechanics, small but specific adjustments that make all the difference to succeeding with a technique, do's and don'ts, and reasons why. With Brazilian Jiu Jitsu the devil is in the detail and I can honestly say that every session is a revelation that continues to change and improve not only my whole perception and understanding of the physical technique but my performance and success rate.

    WORLD CLASS TRAINING

World class!! A humble place packed with future champions. Until I started practising Jiu Jitsu at GB Preston, weight lifting was my preferred way of training. Although strength does help when grappling, no matter how fit you are, muscling will fatigue you & then you're in a lot of trouble. So for me, Jiu Jitsu is essential and has changed me in many good ways. No matter how little or how large, male or female, Jiu Jitsu will make a better you.
